ISLAMABAD, July 17, 2026: Zong has begun installing a 5G-ready indoor connectivity system at Islamabad International Airport, aiming to improve mobile network coverage and provide passengers with easier access to telecom services.
The company has also opened a Customer Facilitation Desk at the airport, where travellers can obtain SIM activation, data packages and on-site customer assistance.
Zong said the Indoor Building Solution will strengthen high-speed mobile coverage across passenger terminals and other key sections of the airport, particularly in areas where indoor signal quality can be affected by building structures and heavy passenger traffic.
The telecom operator described the project as part of its preparations for future 5G services and digitally enabled aviation facilities in Pakistan.
Senior officials from Zong, the Pakistan Airports Authority and Huawei attended the launch ceremony.
Zong Chief Technical Officer Mao Weiliang said digital connectivity had become an essential part of modern air travel and was increasingly supporting passenger services, smart infrastructure and economic activity.
He said the deployment would address current connectivity requirements while preparing Islamabad International Airport for future services linked to 5G and smart aviation.
Zong Executive Director for Sales and Distribution Faheem Durrani said the addition of a customer service desk would allow passengers to resolve connectivity issues and access mobile services directly at the airport.
He said the company was working to improve customer access to digital services at major public and transport locations.
Islamabad International Airport Manager Aftab Gillani said dependable connectivity had become an important part of the passenger experience at modern airports.
He said the new indoor network and customer support facility would improve convenience for travellers and contribute to the airport’s digital development.
Zong said the airport project forms part of its wider plan to expand 5G-ready infrastructure at major transit hubs across Pakistan.
The company also plans to integrate improved mobile connectivity with artificial intelligence-supported services and other digital products as Pakistan’s telecom and aviation sectors move towards smarter infrastructure.
