ISLAMABAD: Students from Westminster Islamabad have been named Best Delegation at Global Model UN Singapore 2026, capping a strong performance in which eight members of the Pakistani team also received Best Diplomacy Awards.
The conference, organised by the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA), was held in Singapore from August 11 to 15 and brought together students from around the world for a simulation of United Nations proceedings. WFUNA describes the conference as part of its Global Model UN programme, designed around realistic UN-style negotiations and consensus-building.
Westminster Islamabad fielded a 10-member delegation at the 2026 edition, with eight students securing Best Diplomacy honours across different committees.
Two students, Nushwa Fatima and Saifullah Omar Mufti, were also shortlisted among 12 participants selected to deliver plenary speeches at the opening ceremony.
Their address focused on sustainable global growth and the need for more equitable and inclusive reform of the United Nations system.
The Best Diplomacy Awards were won by Asna Ahmed and Muhammad Rayyan Shah in UNGA ECOFIN, Noor Ul Ain Shah and Muhammad Zuraz Inaam in UNGA SPECPOL, Anousheh Asif and Saifullah Omar Mufti in the World Health Assembly, and Abdullah Omar Mufti and Aish Nauman in the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
The students were trained by Westminster’s MUN coaching panel led by Dr Shahan Khan.
The 2026 performance also marked a significant improvement on Westminster Islamabad’s first participation in the Singapore conference in 2025.
According to Westminster’s own record of international MUN achievements, three of its six students won Best Diplomacy Awards at Global Model UN Singapore 2025, while two members of that delegation were also shortlisted to address the opening ceremony.
This year’s larger delegation and stronger award tally reflected a notable expansion in Pakistan’s representation at the forum.
Several members of the Westminster delegation were also among the younger participants at the conference.
Beyond the committee sessions, the students represented Pakistan at the Global Cultural Night on August 13, showcasing elements of the country’s national and regional culture.
The conference itself featured multiple simulations, including UN General Assembly committees, the World Health Assembly and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, alongside workshops and plenary sessions.
Westminster Islamabad said the delegation’s performance was recognised for its diplomacy, preparation and participation throughout the event.
The result gives Pakistan a prominent showing at one of WFUNA’s major international Model UN forums and builds on Westminster Islamabad’s previous success at the 2025 edition.
