Islamabad – Vice Chairman of Pakistan Flour Mills Association Punjab Sheikh Ejaz, Group Leader Chaudhry Masood, Chaudhry Iftikhar Sandhu and other senior members of the Ittihad Group have alleged pre-poll rigging and forgery in the upcoming association elections.
In a joint statement, they said the ruling Awaz Group, which has occupied the association for the last 16 years, is using various tactics to deprive members of their right to vote and is trying to win through bogus votes. They said establishing only one polling station in Lahore is tantamount to depriving members of their voting right.
Sheikh Ejaz said they had filed an application with the DGTO, after which the DGTO ordered three polling stations in Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi for the October 24 elections. He alleged that the Awaz Group, on the false pretext of lack of funds and through collusion, got the DGTO to withdraw its decision and now elections are being held only in Lahore, which will cause severe difficulties for mill owners from Rawalpindi, Multan and other remote areas and will result in low turnout.
He added that if the issue is funds, the Ittihad Group is ready to bear all expenses for the polling stations. The leaders demanded that DGTO restore its decision for three polling stations, include all legitimate members in the voter list, take notice of bogus voting attempts by the group occupying for 16 years, and appoint observers for transparent elections.
